Show Them You Care: 3 Ways to Show a Home-Bound Friend That You Care

Blog

Being homebound can be stressful, especially if it's been a while since the homebound person has been able to get outside. When someone is homebound, even a simple gesture can make a world of difference. If you know someone who's homebound, there are some simple things you can do to help them feel less isolated. Here are three suggestions for lifting the spirits of your homebound friend.

Volunteer Your Time

If your friend is homebound, there may certain things they're not going to be able to do. Unfortunately, your friend may not ask for the help that they desperately need. That means that some important tasks might go undone. That's where you come in. You can lift their spirits by volunteering your time. Volunteer to run errands for your friend or to clean their house for them. These simple tasks will help alleviate their stress and help them feel less isolated.

Have a Movie Night

If your friend is part of a larger group that used to get out and do things together, they may feel removed from the group now that they're homebound. Help them feel like part of the group again by bringing an activity to them. A movie night is the perfect way to include your friend in a group activity. Set the movie up in the room where your friend is most comfortable. This is particularly important if your friend is bedridden during this time. Be sure to schedule the movie night for the time that is most convenient for your friend. This will prevent your friend from becoming fatigued because you planned the movie night for the wrong time, such as for too late in the evening. Since your friend is likely in home care, you also won't want to plan the movie night for a time when home care providers are scheduled to come over.

Give Them a Date Night

If your friend is married or has a significant other, they may be missing the date nights they used to share with that person. Help them enjoy a special evening by planning a date night for them. Arrange to have everything brought to their home so that they don't have to leave. This would be the perfect time to order food online and have it delivered to their home. Don't forget to offer a clean-up service for after the date night. That way your friend isn't left with a mess that they will have to clean up.

Being homebound doesn't mean a person has to be removed from everyone and everything. If you have a friend who is homebound, use the tips provided here to bring comfort and cheer to them.

utilizing a home health care nurse

Hiring a home care nurse can make things much easier to deal with for so many families. How do you choose the home care service that you use? Is there anything that you can do to make the nurse's job a little easier to accomplish each day. My blog is all about hiring a home care nurse and utilizing all of the services offered by the company. It is my hope that my years of having a home care nurse in my home will help you to find a comfortable and pleasant arrangement that keeps your family member comfortable and healthy for years to come.
